The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) is the latest corporate entity to align with the Petra Organisation for the sixth annual KFC International Goodwill Football tournament, slated for December 14-21.
The eight-team competition will feature rivalry among teams from six countries, namely Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil, Suriname, Bahamas and Jamaica.
To ensure the success of the tournament, GBTI Senior Marketing Manager Pernell Cummings, in the presence of CEO Shawn Gurcharran presented G$1.5M to the organisers, confirming their alliance with KFC, New GPC Inc. and Royal International Hotel as corporate partners.
Co-Director of the Petra Organisation Troy Mendonca said GBTI’s contribution to the tournament should not be seen as a donation, but rather an investment in the future of football.
In welcoming the banking institution onboard, Mendonca emphasised the impact the year-end competition has had on local football development by pointing out that local school Chase Academic Foundation is the reigning champion.
Cummings said the bank is elated to partner with the Petra Organisation, noting that the sponsorship represents an investment in the future of Guyana.
Chase Academic Foundation will put their title on the line against fellow local schools West Ruimveldt Secondary and Annai Secondary, and visiting schools St. Benedict’s College (T&T), Kingston College (Jamaica), Anglican Central Education Authority Select (Bahamas), Monteiro Lobato School (Boa Vista, Brazil) and the winner of the Suriname Schools Championship.
