A 30-year-old Corentyne man lost his life late Thursday night after the car he was travelling in overturned along the Corentyne roadway.
The deceased has been identified as Davendra Sydney of Lot 232 Bushlot Village, Corentyne.
Reports indicate that at around 23:20 hrs, motor car PWW 6986 was speeding east along the northern lane when its driver, a 31-year-old man of John’s Settlement, Corentyne, reportedly lost control. The vehicle flipped, throwing Sydney onto the nearby grass embankment before coming to rest on a bridge.
Both men sustained injuries and were pulled from the wreckage by bystanders. They were rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where Sydney was pronounced dead by a doctor. His body has been transferred to Ramoo’s Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
The driver was admitted for observation due to multiple bruises.
Police said a breathalyser test was administered to the driver, returning readings of 77 and 74 microgrammes — above the legal limit.
Investigations are ongoing.
