A Berbice resident was found guilty of rape of a 5-year-old boy when he appeared at the Berbice High Court on Monday before Justice Sandil Kissoon.
Sanjay Peters, 29, residing at 127 Williamsburg Corentyne, was accused of sexually assaulting the child on two separate occasions, specifically on July 1 and August 5, 2018, in Berbice.
During the trial, a jury of twelve found Peters guilty of both charges. The court heard testimonies from two Police officers and four civilian witnesses before reaching a decision regarding the defendant’s guilt.
The state was represented by Cicela Corbin, while Peters had Attorney-at-Law Kevin Morgan defending him.
Peters has been ordered to remain in custody until he is sentenced on January 6, 2026, for his crimes.
