In a harrowing incident from Berbice, a man has pleaded guilty to the charge stemming from a horrific sexual crime against a nine-year-old girl.
D’Andre Perry appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the Berbice High Court, where he admitted to the charge on Tuesday. The court heard that Perry, who was 27 years old at the time of the offense, committed the act on October 19, 2024. ‘
According to the prosecution’s account, on that fateful day, the young girl was simply on her way to visit her grandfather when Perry approached her and later sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene when the girl screamed for help.
The young girl, visibly shaken and disoriented, made her way to a relative’s home, where she recounted what happened. The girl was taken to the hospital, having suffered significant injuries and requiring surgery to address the harm caused during the incident.
The court was informed that as a direct result of what she had experienced, she had lost one liter of blood.
In the courtroom, following the presentation of the child’s case, Justice Kissoon made a key decision to order that a probation report be compiled in preparation for the forthcoming sentencing.
Additionally, State Prosecutor Cecil Corbin indicated that an impact statement, a document that outlines the effects of the crime on the victim and others, would also be submitted before the final sentencing took place.
Meanwhile, the accused has been remanded to prison as the court proceedings continue. He is scheduled to make his next appearance in court on January 6, where the specific details of his sentencing will be determined.
