President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Mitra Rajkumar recently reaffirmed the association’s commitment to inclusive growth and a ‘no one left behind’ mantra for the tourism and hospitality sector.
Speaking with the News Room, Rajkumar acknowledged THAG’s recent award for its role in business support for 2025, an achievement he said reflects the association’s ongoing mandate to serve as an enabler for industry stakeholders.
“We are focused on being the enabler. We are a business support organization, and we are carrying out our mandate,” Rajkumar said.
He added that THAG continues to encourage more stakeholders to join the association, stressing that a broader membership strengthens the industry’s collective voice.
According to the THAG president, increased collaboration among partners allows the sector to advocate more effectively for its interests while ensuring opportunities are accessible across all levels of the workforce.
“With what Guyana is experiencing with the growth level, you want to ensure that no one is left behind.
“It enables everyone, regardless of skill level. You are able to work your way up, and see yourself as part of Guyana’s growth,” Rajkumar said.
Visitor arrivals surged last year. From 2026 through 2030, the Government of Guyana plans to accelerate tourism development through strategic investments in marketing, training, capacity building, destination development, and private sector participation, including cruise tourism, sports and entertainment tourism, cultural events, and expanded product offerings.
Looking ahead, Rajkumar revealed that THAG’s continued collaboration with the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) is expected to support the national tourism agenda for 2026. He also said that this collaboration aligns with the government’s continued focus on developing the tourism sector.
“The government is also focused on tourism, especially when you look at the expressions of interest currently out there for the waterfront and other areas,” he said.
Rajkumar emphasised that such public and private sector alignment is critical to ensuring sustainable growth and long-term benefits for the entire tourism and hospitality industry in Guyana.
