Tiffany Williams, a four-year-old girl from Laluni Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, tragically lost her life days after she was severely injured in a house fire.
The incident occurred on Christmas Day last year while Tiffany and her mother, Emily Williams, were visiting family.
“When this accident happen it was Christmas. I bake a cake and I gone and drop it for them. I was not there whole day or an hour and that is what I receive, my daughter got burn in their house, I don’t know nothing and my daughter just died innocently,” the grieving mother told the News Room on Tuesday.
Emily, a farmer, said she works hard to provide for her children and that the loss of her only daughter is devastating.
“That is only daughter, I have three sons and that was my only baby girl,” a tearful Emily said.
According to Emily, she was sitting outside her brother-in-law’s house when the fire erupted at about 17:30hrs on December 25, 2025. She further explained that her brother-in-law and his wife were near a music box, where it seems the fire started. The house was powered with a generator.

The mother said she had no idea her daughter was inside the house until the little girl appeared at the doorway, engulfed in flames.
“I see my brother-in-law run out with his son, when he run out with his son I jump up and look for my daughter, I didn’t know she was inside because they had nuff children around and everybody was playing in the yard, so I think she was there [in the yard].
“…but when my brother-in-law run out with he son, I see she step in front of the door in fire, and then I hollered and I go to jump into the fire but by time I reach, my brother-in-law [went] back into the fire and take she out,” Emily recalled.

The mother said she and her brother-in-law Aaron Defreitas managed to extinguish the flames from her daughter.
During the incident, Defreitas’ wife escaped through the back door of the house.
“Nobody run with my daughter, my brother-in-law run out with his son and that’s why my daughter get bad burn.”
The little girl died on New Year’s morning at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC). She was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and never regained consciousness.
She described her daughter as a joyful and friendly little girl.

Meanwhile, Defreitas is admitted at GPHC in a critical condition. His 2-year-old son, Allister is also admitted. They both suffered severe burns during the fire. Defreitas received burns to his feet, face, hands and the back of his neck and had to undergo surgery. His son suffered burns to his feet, hands and abdomen.
“My brother-in-law he is in the hospital critical and he son getting discharge anytime,” Emily said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
