Jags Aviation reducing fares for hinterland flights

President Dr Irfaan Ali announced on Thursday that Jags Aviation, a local flight operator, has agreed to lower its fares for travel to the hinterland communities of Paramakatoi in Region Eight and Aishalton, Region Nine.

The new costs, he said, would take effect from February 1, 2026.

Soon after President Ali made the announcement at the commissioning of the upgraded Aishalton airstrip, the BK Group of Companies issued a release confirming that Jags Aviation will be reducing fares to the interior. Jags Aviation is part of the Group of Companies.

It was noted that Brian Tiwari, Executive Chairman of BK Group of Companies endorsed the President’s call for airline operators to reduce their fares following the upgrades to airstrips in Paramakatoi and Aishalton.

“… Jags Aviation has already reduced the cost for flights to the interior and has asked the Managing Director of Jags Aviation, Ms. Gail Tiwari, its Manager Colonel Miguel Benjamin, and Chief Pilot Mr. Carl Rodney to find ways to further lower the cost of fares to the interior.

“According to Mr. Tiwari, the lowering of airfares to the interior was long overdue, and that President Dr. Ali’s pragmatism and skillful urban planner, coupled with the “One Guyana” notion has inspired the nation and restored hope and confidence in the business community and the citizenry,” the release noted.

Days ago, when he commissioned the upgraded Paramakatoi airstrip, President Ali urged local flight operators to reduce the hefty fares citizens pay to travel to and from that community. He said many operators complained that the state of the airstrip drove those costs up, but now that there is this upgraded airstrip ready for use, the President wants those costs to go down.

“We will not just sit by and not allow the benefit of these cost-savings to be transferred to the people.

“We will know by tomorrow which one of the services will announce a reduction in the cost coming into Paramakatoi… Our investment must lead to investment in the people,” Dr Ali said at the commissioning ceremony for the airstrip.
