From a position of strength at 51-1 in the 10th over chasing 107 Guyana suffered a massive collapse to lose by seven runs against Leeward Islands in Round Two of the Cricket West Indies’ Blaze T20 competition on Thursday at the Arnos Vale Playing Field, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

It was Guyana’s first defeat this season after starting their title defence with an identical seven-run win over Windward Islands on Tuesday last at the same venue.
Responding to Leeward Islands’ 106-9, Guyana managed 99 all out from the allotted 20 overs. Mandy Mangru with 24 off 22 (1×4) and opener Sheneta Grimmond with 23 off 40 (3x4s) were the leading scorers.
Skipper Shemaine Campbelle was the only other player into double figures with 11, while extras totalled 18.
Bowling for Leeward Islands, skipper Amanda Edwards bagged 3-18 off four overs, Qiana Joseph 2-10 off four and Davronique Maynard 2-13 off four.
Leeward Islands, sent in to bat first, got a top score of 51 off 54 balls (7x4s) from wicketkeeper Reniece Boyce, while Edwards made a crucial 31 off 29 (2x4s).
Bowling for Guyana, off-spinner Ashmini Munisar was impressive with 4-15 off four overs, one of which was a maiden. The experienced Plaffiana Millington was also among the wickets, with 3-11 of four overs- also delivering a maiden- while Shabika Gajnabi produced a steady spell of 4-0-20-1.
Next up for Guyana is a clash against Jamaica on Saturday from 19:00h.
In the other second round matches, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago emerged with wins over Jamaica and Windward Islands respectively.
