Kabakaburi Secondary impresses at Regional Two Athletics championship

Newly gazetted school Kabakaburi Secondary delivered a notable performance at the 2026 Region Two Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championship, finishing seventh overall out of 10 competing schools.

Despite its relatively small size and developing programme, Kabakaburi Secondary accumulated 258.50 points, placing ahead of Essequibo Technical Institute, Wakapoa Secondary School and Johanna Cecilia Secondary School in the combined team standings.

The school’s athletes also made a strong impact in the finals, securing a total of 17 medals, including eight gold, five silver and four bronze, a commendable achievement for a school still in its early years of secondary-level competition.

With a student population of approximately 185 and a contingent of 35 athletes, Kabakaburi Secondary’s performance is being viewed as a significant milestone, highlighting the potential of emerging schools within Region Two to compete alongside more established institutions.

The showing at this year’s championship underscores the steady growth of Kabakaburi Secondary’s athletics programme and reflects positively on the wider development of school sports across the Essequibo Coast.
