The Yarrowkabara Training Centre (YTC) was this week dedicated to the late James Singh, who served the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) for a total of 27 years.
In honour of the late Commissioner, the GFC has renamed the facility, the “James Singh Centre for Innovation, Training & Sustainable Forestry.”
In a statement from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mr. Singh was lauded as a “stalwart within the forestry sector.”
Mr. Singh had a long and distinguished career at the Commission, leading many initiatives and programs. He served the GFC from 1998 to June 2025 in the posts of Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner from 1999 to 2019 and Management Consultant 2020 to the time of his passing.
He was instrumental in the work and development of the YTC and piloted the centre to not only focus on research but also to introduce training, the Ministry said.
The YTC was established in the 1960’s and is located at Yarrowkabra on the Linden Soesdyke Highway.
Also present at the dedication ceremony were the family members of James Singh.
