In a show of compassion, the Demerara Mutual Group has committed to providing sponsorship to the Petra Organisation in the form of Group Personal Accident insurance coverage for all registered participants during tournaments organised by the body in 2026.
The Petra Organisation, the leading entity in Guyana promoting youth and schools football, has eight competitions planned for this year.
Its principals Troy Mendonca and Marlan Cole were elated to once again welcome the insurance company, extending a mutual alliance that started in 2025.

Oceola Van Doimen, Sales and Marketing Coordinator of the Guyanese insurance company which has been in existence for 134 years, said the partnership last year provided an opportunity to truly understand the vision of the Petra Organisation.
“We saw firsthand the impact these tournaments have on young athletes across Guyana. So it gives me great pleasure to formally announce that the Demerara Mutual Group is continuing our partnership with the Petra Organisation for the entire 2026 football calendar,” Van Doimen said.
“This means hundreds of young athletes- from our Under-11 players right through to our senior youth divisions players- can compete with the protection they need and deserve.”
Van Doimen related that insurance goes way beyond paperwork and policies, as it enables dreams and remove barriers.
“When the Demerara Mutual Group invests in youth sports, we’re doing something that goes far beyond sponsorship. We’re making a statement about what kind of Guyana we want to build,” the insurance executive posited.
“We’re saying that every child deserves the chance to play, to learn, to grow- regardless of their family’s financial situation or where they happen to live. Sports teach our young people things they cannot learn in a classroom alone.”
Van Doimen added: “They learn how to work with others, how to handle disappointment, how to celebrate victories with grace and how to get back up after being knocked down. These are life skills. These are the qualities that build strong employees, strong entrepreneurs, strong citizens.”
As the partnership was strengthened during a simple but significant media briefing at the company’s Avenue of the Republic and Robb Street office, both Mendonca and Cole expressed elation for the critical alliance, one they strongly feel adds value to their annual programme.
