Guyana’s Shan Seejatan and Anand Ramchand receive FIA Driver-of-the-Year awards

In a landmark evening for Guyana’s motorsport, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) celebrated the achievements of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) during the 2026 FIA Americas Awards.

Representing a significant milestone for the development of the sport in the region, two of Guyana’s most distinguished competitors, Shan Seejattan and Anand Ramchand, were formally recognised for their sustained excellence on the circuit.

The FIA Americas Awards serve as the premier platform for recognising the highest level of sporting performance across the NACAM and CODASUR regions.

The 2026 ceremony saw the presentation of honours to Shan Seejattan, 2025 FIA Americas Driver of the Year (Guyana), and Anand Ramchand, 2024 FIA Americas Driver of the Year (Guyana).

According to the GMR&SC, these accolades mark the first time in history that Guyanese drivers have received such high-level FIA recognition, underscoring the rising technical and competitive standards within the nation’s domestic championships.

The presence of GMR&SC President Mahendra Boodhoo in Panama City highlights the strengthening relationship between the FIA and its Guyanese affiliate.

Under the current administration, the club has achieved FIA 1-Star Environmental Accreditation, aligning with the Federation’s global commitment to sustainable motorsport operations.

“The recognition of Mr Seejattan and Mr Ramchand is a testament to the rigorous sporting framework being established in Guyana,” noted regional officials. “This achievement, coupled with the facility upgrades at the South Dakota Circuit, positions Guyana as a burgeoning hub for international competition.”

The FIA continues to monitor the sport’s expansion in the region, particularly ahead of the GT Américas Challenge scheduled for July 2026.
