Three seriously injured in truck/car collision in West Berbice

A serious accident along the Brahan Public Road in West Coast Berbice on Monday morning left three persons injured following a collision between a truck and a car.

Reports indicate that at around 5:00 hrs, a car bearing registration number PAN 852, driven by 25-year-old Vinod Rahim and transporting passengers Davi Jaipaul, 43, and Nadera Persaud, 32, was proceeding west along the southern side of the roadway. At the same time, a lorry bearing registration GAL 1653, driven by 34-year-old Ewart Austin, was travelling east on the northern side.

Investigations revealed that the lorry suddenly veered into the southern lane, resulting in a collision with the car.

Following the impact, public-spirited citizens quickly rendered assistance, extracting the injured occupants and transporting them to the Bath Regional Hospital, where they were assessed and treated by a doctor on duty in the emergency ward.

The News Room understands that Davi Jaipaul sustained a spinal fracture, Nadera Persaud suffered a fractured left femur, while Vinod Rahim sustained fractures to his left leg and left forearm.

The lorry driver, Ewart Austin, who reportedly sustained minor injuries, was arrested and taken into police custody.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into the incident.
