Three masked gunmen opened fire at a mining camp at Oko Backdam along the Cuyuni River, Region Seven on Thursday, January 29, 2026, during an armed attack on miners. Police Headquarters reported that no valuables were during the attack.
According to the report, the incident occurred at about 20:15 hrs when an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) arrived at the camp carrying the three masked men, all reportedly armed with firearms. The suspects held several miners at gunpoint and demanded their valuables.
During the attack, the men discharged several rounds into the air before fleeing the area empty-handed. No injuries were reported.
