Elderly woman returns to find Blairmont home ransacked

An 87-year-old pensioner returned to her Blairmont Village home last weekend to find it broken into and ransacked.

Bibi Rahim of Lot 44, Number One Settlement, West Bank Berbice, told reporters that since the death of her son in November 2024, she has been staying with a nearby relative.

Rahim said that upon returning to her home last Saturday, she discovered the interior in disarray, with items including her tablets, bed, documents, and other belongings scattered.

“Me nah know if me lost anything because me nah search fuh nothing. Me nah get money and jewellery,” the distraught woman said.

She explained that a check of the building revealed a broken lower-floor window, which she believes was used as the point of entry. One of the doors was also damaged.

“If me bin deh home me nah know what woulda happen. A lucky me deh home. God is the greatest,” she added.

Rahim, who lives alone, reported the incident to the Blairmont Police Station. She said officers promised to visit her home but up to the time of reporting, they had not shown up.
