GCA/NBS Second Division: Thomas’ all-round effort helps El Dorado defeat Bel Air

A stellar all-round display from Jonte Thomas, coupled with a crucial half-century from Joshua Ferrell, propelled El Dorado Cricket Club to a nail-biting four-wicket victory against Bel Air Rubis in a captivating New Building Society (NBS) Second Division 40-over encounter staged by the Georgetown Cricket Association.

The match, played at the Demerara Cricket Club ground on Saturday, delivered a thrilling contest that showcased the depth of talent within the local cricket scene.

After electing to bat, Bel Air Rubis struggled to build momentum, ultimately being dismissed for 199 in 39.1 overs.

Despite several batsmen making starts, none could convert them into a substantial score.

T Totaram offered resistance, while Mahindra Jeenarine (37*), Rajendra Singh (30), and Ajay Gainda (30) provided valuable contributions.

However, their efforts were overshadowed by a sensational bowling performance from Jonte Thomas, who dismantled the Bel Air batting lineup with figures of 5-15.

Joshua Ferrell (3-46) provided crucial support, ensuring Bel Air fell short of a formidable total.

Chasing 200 for victory, El Dorado CC’s innings was anchored by a pair of brilliant half-centuries.

Building on his bowling performance, Ferrell struck a vital 64, while Owen Andrews mirrored his teammate’s score, also contributing 64.

Jonte Thomas (45*), completing his all-round masterclass, guided El Dorado CC to victory, ensuring they reached the target with wickets to spare.

Mahindra Jeenarine (3-31) was the pick of the Bel Air bowlers, but his efforts proved insufficient as El Dorado CC secured a hard-fought win.
