Young boy injured in Charlotte Street tragedy has Guyana’s full support – President

President Dr. Irfaan Ali, on Tuesday night, said he spoke to the 10-year-old boy injured in the Charlotte Street shooting and assured him that the entire nation stands by his side.

“I assured him that he carries with him the love and compassion of an entire nation, and that we will stand firmly by his side as he works to overcome this painful trauma and ordeal.

“I call upon our religious leaders, and indeed all our people, to lift this child in prayer and to ask the Almighty to surround him with strength, comfort, and healing in the days and months ahead,” the President wrote in a Facebook post.

The 10-year-old boy was injured after he was shot in the chest by his father, Alroy Solomon.

Alroy had gone to the Charlotte Street apartment, his son and partner, Teekadai Atiya Solomon were renting around 11:50 hrs Tuesday. Police reported that Alroy ran into the yard where his wife and son lived, triggering screams and several gunshots. Teekadai attempted to escape but was pursued onto the street, where Alroy shot her multiple times, causing her to collapse on the roadway.

The armed man then returned to the yard, where he fired a single round at their son, striking him on the left side of his lower chest. Alroy later turned the gun on himself, discharging a round to the left side of his head.

The couple, who had lived at North East La Penitence, had been separated for about two months due to domestic issues. Teekadai had since relocated to Charlotte Street with her son.
