LaRose (5-27), Dindyal (121) spur GCC to twin victories in GCA First Division competition

Impactful performances from Carlos LaRose and Mavendra Dindyal lifted Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) to commanding wins last weekend when the Georgetown Cricket Association staged matches in its Dave West Indian Imports’ First Division 50-over competition.

On August 23, GCC thumped hosts Malteenoes by nine wickets with LaRose picking up a five-wicket haul, while the following day, Dindyal stroked a sublime hundred to lead GCC to a massive 274-run win over El Dorado Cricket Club.

Seamer LaRose bagged an impressive 5-27 from seven overs as Malteenoes were skittled out for just 76 from 25.4 overs after the game was reduced to 35 overs.

Experienced left-arm spinner Devon Lord picked up 3-5 from five overs, while spin pair Krsna Singh (1-6) and Aryan Persaud (1-25) also chipped in.

Openers Martin Pestano-Belle and Navindra Persaud then set the foundation for victory with an opening stand of 48 in 8.3 overs, as GCC coasted to victory at 78-1 from 11.3 overs.

Pestano-Belle ended on an unbeaten 35 off 38 (4x4s, 1×6), while Dindyal finished on 17 not out off nine balls (2x4s, 1×6).

Persaud made a run-a-ball 22 (2x4s, 1×6). Bowling for Malteenoes, Delroy Browne took 1-17 off three overs.

The following day, home side GCC piled up 339 all out from 44.5 overs with West Indies Under-19 batsman Dindyal hitting a superb 121 off 103 balls.

The elegant right-hander struck five fours and seven sixes in an innings that formed the base of the winning total. Hard-hitting all-rounder Thaddeus Lovell boosted the innings with a rapid 65 off 25 balls, smashing seven sixes and a four.

First-Class batsman Akshaya Persaud made 42 off 41 (1×4, 2x6s), LaRose 30 off 21 (2x4s, 1×6) and Pestano-Belle 29 off 35 (3x4s). Bowling for El Dorado Cricket Club, Joshua Ferrell took 5-50 off 8.5 overs and Akeem Williams 3-63 off eight.

In reply, El Dorado Cricket Club folded for 65 all out from 17.5 overs with Kampta Seepersaud and Joseph Shivgobin the only players into double-figures with 13 and 12 respectively. Extras were 23.

Bowling for GCC, Yeudistir Persaud snapped up 4-30 off seven overs, Lord took 2-7 off four and LaRose 2-24 off five.
