The Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Women’s Division One League is back in action today with a tantalising doubleheader at the National Training Center in Providence. Two mouthwatering clashes are scheduled, with four teams vying for crucial points early in the season.
The evening starts at 18:00h with Den Amstel FC Women taking on Ann’s Grove United Women.
Both teams are yet to register a point, making this a pivotal match.
While Ann’s Grove is playing its first match of the competition, Den Amstel will be looking to redeem themselves after a difficult 24-0 defeat to Guyana Defence Force last Friday.
Despite the lopsided scoreline, goalkeeper Sabrina Peters was a standout performer, making over 10 saves, and her form will be key as Den Amstel seeks to rebound.
The second match at 19:30 pits Western Tigers Women against Fruta Conquerors Women.
Fruta Conquerors are coming off an emphatic 13-0 victory over Monedderlust FC on opening night, with stars like Dellanna Small, captain Fayon Harry, and newcomer Rihanna DaCosta all looking in fine form.
This match is a chance for Western Tigers to secure their first three points after a 0-2 loss to Santos FC last week.
Strikers Rayanna Harris and Marissa Frank will be central to their efforts to get on the scoresheet.
The league features an impressive grand prize of $1M (Guyana dollars) for the winners, with second to fourth place teams earning $500,000, $300,000, and $100,000 respectively.
A cup tournament will follow the league, offering additional prize money for the top four finishers.
The action continues next Friday, September 5, with Fruta Conquerors facing Den Amstel and GPF FC battling Western Tigers.
