‘Do not be misguided” – President warns youth against calls to reject election results

President Dr Irfaan Ali has called on the nation’s young people to reject attempts to misguide them after the September 1 General and Regional Elections, warning that those who encourage lawlessness “care nothing” about their future.

Speaking at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic’s final rally at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara on Saturday night, President Ali urged youths to remain focused on their dreams and not be swayed by individuals who refuse to accept the outcome of the polls.

“To my young brothers and sisters, to those who are telling you that they will not accept the results and might be encouraging you to go down the wrong path, I say to you tonight, after this elections, your future is still in your hands,” Ali declared to thousands of supporters.

“Do not be misguided. Do not be led down the wrong road. Ask yourself, why is it they would want you to do something that is wrong, something that is illegal? Because they have no value for you as a citizen, and they care nothing about your future.”

The Head of State said his government’s vision is to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to pursue their ambitions and realise their full potential.

“Every student who is dreaming of becoming a doctor, every student who is dreaming of becoming an artist, a world-class painter, a world-class carpenter – dream no longer. Be assured that this government will ensure those dreams are realised,” the President pledged.

Ali emphasised that the PPP/C’s policies are rooted in building stronger families and stronger communities, which he described as the backbone of national development.

“Every family, the fabric of our society lies in our families. We want stronger families, and we will build stronger families together,” he affirmed.

The President’s remarks capped off the party’s campaign trail, reinforcing a message of hope, stability, and responsibility ahead of Monday’s elections.
