Incumbent President Dr Irfaan Ali closed the PPP’s campaign with a rallying call for his supporters to “seal the victory” at Monday’s general and regional elections.
Speaking at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, to tens of thousands of supporters, he called on them to show up early and strong on polling day.
“On Election Day, let us flood the polling stations with energy, with pride, and with hope. Let us send a message so powerful that no one can ever again attempt to deny the will of the people.”
He said the victory will not happen unless people go out to vote.
“Victory is in the air. But victory is not automatic. Victory is only guaranteed with your vote on September 1. It will only come if we finish the job. And finishing this job means turning out in your numbers,” President Ali declared.
The President urged the electorate to vote not only for the party but for their families and communities.
“Vote for your children. Vote for your family. Vote for your community. Vote for your future.
He pledged that his administration will continue to deepen national unity, fairness, and inclusiveness.
“National unity must become the living spirit of our nation, the bond that transcends our differences and lifts us towards a common purpose,” Ali said.
“My government will, in the months ahead, forge stronger bonds of national unity built on the recognition that though we may come from different walks of life, we are bound by a shared identity, common values, and a collective dream of progress.”
He stressed that his government’s future policies will seek to entrench fairness and inclusiveness.
“We will ensure a society where fairness prevails, where citizens, regardless of creed, race, or circumstance, feel included and respected, and where social justice is a guarantee,” Ali said.
“I commit, therefore, that any future government I lead will not merely preserve this ideal but deepen it by strengthening our national institutions, so they inspire trust, by embedding equity and inclusiveness into every policy, and by fostering a culture of respect for diversity.”
Ali vowed that national unity would remain “the enduring foundation of our peace, progress, and prosperity.”
He said the PPP/C has proven itself as the party of the people, the party of progress, the party of prosperity.
