‘Daughters, women’ must be safe, free from violence – Pres. Ali

President Dr Irfaan Ali has renewed his call for greater protection of women and children in Guyana. Addressing tens of thousands at the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) final rally at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, President Ali underscored that the dignity, safety, and wellbeing of women must remain a national priority.

“No one, no group will be left abandoned. And men, I need you to listen: we have a responsibility, more than our women, to do everything in our power to keep them safe, to give them the best quality of life, in safety, in honour, in dignity, and their pride,” the President pleaded.
The President, who is seeking re-election at the September 1, 2025 polls, reiterated his government’s plans to invest in technology to make women feel safe.

“The pride of this nation must be in our ability to keep our daughters, our little girl children, and the women in our society safe, free from violence, free from anger, and free from disruptions in their lives. And women, we will invest in the technology that will allow you to feel safe, because you have shown us that when you are given the opportunity, you rise and rise,” President Ali said.

Just days ago, a horrific domestic violence case shocked the nation. Police reported that 36-year-old Teekadai Atiya Solomon was murdered by her estranged partner, Alroy Solomon, at her Charlotte Street, Georgetown apartment.

According to investigators, Alroy stormed into the home, chased Teekadai onto the street and shot her. She was shot at least 10 times.
Alroy then turned the gun on his 10-year-old son, injuring the young boy, before fatally shooting himself.
