Swift voting marks Election Day as some citizens report one-minute process

The voting process across Guyana for the General and Regional elections on Monday has been marked by efficiency and calm, with citizens reporting that it takes less than a minute to cast their ballots at most polling stations.

A total of 757,690 people are registered to vote in the 2025 elections. At Corriverton, Berbice, Mayor Imran Amin described his voting experience as swift and seamless.

“It was a minute process,” he said, noting that the efficiency of the system means there will be no build-up of crowds at his polling station, where 319 voters are registered.

“You get a person in and out within a minute,” he added.

Amin projected a strong victory for the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) as he reflected on the party’s extensive groundwork and public support in the region.

Over at Leonora, West Coast Demerara, President Irfaan Ali’s parents, Bibi Neshaw and Mohamed Osman Ali, also cast their votes early in the day.

Osman praised the process as “very peaceful, quiet and orderly,” while encouraging others to turn out early and patiently await the results.

Neshaw expressed similar sentiments, adding that, as customary, she would remain nearby to assist anyone who needed help navigating the voting steps.

Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain described the polling staff as “very professional.

“Lots of guidance given and very quickly. I think I took a minute,” Hussain said.

In Parika, East Bank Essequibo, another voter emphasised the same smooth experience.

“Everything was peaceful. We had people assisting you to know which section to go. Everything was calm and everybody was respectful,” the voter said, explaining that voting early helped avoid long lines.

She urged others to maintain peace and unity: “This is not about race or anything. This is about coming and exercising your right,” she said.

Across multiple regions, it was reported that polling stations opened on time and the process has remained orderly.
