Cyclist killed in Ruimzeight hit-and-run

A 41-year-old cyclist was killed after being struck by a minibus in a hit-and-run accident on the Ruimzeight Public Road, West Coast Demerara, on Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Mohamed Shazaud Wahab, a labourer of Wallers Delight, West Coast Demerara.

In a statement, Police Headquarters said investigations revealed that Wahab was riding alongside his brother, Ahmad Wahab, when a white minibus, travelling east at high speed, collided with him.

Police said Ahmad told investigators that his brother had been riding closer to the centre of the northern carriageway at the time of the impact.

Emergency Medical Technicians rushed the victim to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body has been taken to Ezekiel Mortuary, pending a post-mortem examination.
