A 47-year-old businessman of Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara, was on Tuesday morning arrested after police discovered an illegal firearm and ammunition in his motor car during an intelligence-led operation.
Police identified the man as Freeman Fordyce, who was intercepted around 07:50 hrs while seated in the driver’s seat of motor car PAH 6733, which was parked in front of his Lot 97 Nandy Park residence.
Ranks from Regional Divisions 4A and 4B conducted a search of the vehicle for arms, ammunition, and drugs. According to the police, the search uncovered a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing five matching rounds hidden in the glove compartment.
When questioned, Fordyce reportedly admitted that he did not possess a firearm licence. He was cautioned but remained silent.
The businessman was immediately arrested and escorted to the Providence Police Station, where the firearm was dusted for fingerprints. He remains in custody as investigations continue.
