Almost 30 pounds of suspected ganja seized at Bamia 

A 58-year-old taxi driver has been arrested after Police ranks found 13.154 kilograms (or about 29 pounds) of suspected cannabis in his vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

According to a Police release, the suspected cannabis was found around 15:40hrs during a stop-and-search exercise in the vicinity of Bamia, Linden Highway.

During the exercise, ranks stopped a Toyota Premio motor car, which was driven by the 58-year-old taxi driver of Wismar, Linden, who was the sole occupant.

A search was conducted on the driver, and nothing illegal was found. However, a search of the motor car revealed four yellow five-gallon jars in the trunk containing 29 parcels wrapped in transparent plastic and containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station along with the suspected cannabis, which was weighed in his presence and amounted to 13.154 kilograms before being lodged.

The suspect remains in police custody pending charges as investigations continue.
