Registration has officially opened for the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) Dexterity and Auto Expo, with organisers reporting a significant surge in interest ahead of the April 11 event.
The competition, which is set to take place in the National Track and Field Centre parking lot, West Coast Demerara, is being supported by sponsors ENet, GUYOIL, and Castrol.
Drivers and riders can register at the club’s Thomas Lands office or via an online portal – https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfQslraz72xw2GbTQsJ-w9JGw7OUGCYe9_RPaYnElbwmO1MMA/viewform
A spokesperson for the GMR&SC confirmed that the event aims to revive a format that emphasises technical ability over outright speed.
“This is a lighter side of motorsport which we used to have fun with in the early days,” the spokesperson said. “We think now is the right time to bring it back. Already this week, we’ve received interest from numerous competitors wanting to find out how they can be a part of it.”
A test of skill over speed
The dexterity event will see participants navigate their vehicles through six or seven different obstacle courses. Unlike traditional circuit racing, the emphasis is placed on “nimbleness and agility.”
The competition will be structured using a class system similar to endurance racing, with categories based on engine displacement:
- 0-1500cc
- 1501cc-1600cc
- 1601cc-2000cc
- Unlimited
Organisers confirmed that cars and motorcycles will compete in separate classes.
Alongside the main dexterity trials, the day will feature motorcycle stunt riding, go-karting, and a drifting exhibition.
The club will also host an Auto Expo, designed to give spectators a chance to view the machinery and interact with the drivers.
“We are using this as a way to give people a gateway to access motorsport,” the club added.
Gates are scheduled to open at 16:00 local time, with admission priced at $2,000. (GMR&SC Press Release)
